David Markfield Utterly delightful! Totally infectious!! Wonderfully hook laden prog! As others have noted influences of The Beatles, early Genesis, Jethro Tull and Canterbury among others. Favorite track: The Mope.

Favorite track: Rabbit.

Carsten Pieper If all albums about depressed potatoes turn out so nicely we need more of them, by all means!
The self-daignosed Beatles-influence is evident, but I also hear traces of early Genesis, Caravan/Canterbury, Jethro Tull among others (even some indie rock...).

Apropos Beatles: This is one of the most melody-laden albums I acquired in the last years :-))

And it's - for obscure reasons - the 3rd work of Swiss artists I acquired here in the course of the last week, none of them sounding "alpine" ;-) Favorite track: Eggs Of Power.

Sven B. Schreiber (sbs) A depressed potato? A naughty rabbit? Sounds absurd - but interesting at the same time. The music turns out to be unusual, too. Yes, it's prog... sort of... but not the usual dead serious stuff we are fed these times as the alleged crown of prog. Heck, these songs crafted by Remy Sträuli are big fun, containing a great deal of "Beatles" spice, and I'm not surprised at all that they originate from Switzerland - a country that surprised me already a thousand times with unusual, brilliant music. Favorite track: Rabbit.

belch1889 When someone sends you an email saying their album is a concept about a depressed potato then you know you are going to like it before you even listen to it. Turns out it's brilliant anyway, so I played a song from it on my show, The Progressive Alternative episode 124 - www.mixcloud.com/belch1889/the-progressive-alternative-124-brooklands-radio-september-17th-2019-heroic-defeats-mardy-bums/

about

A complex story around a depressed potato, a naughty rabbit and the loss of inspiration, the difficulties of a struggling artist and his awkward position in a modern world, where good manners seem to go down the tube.

“His clear, yet very own vocals harmonize with the memorable melodies. There is no real comparison that could accurately describe the full extent of "Pondering Aloud". 13 out of 15 points.” (Betreutes Proggen, Ger)

«...add dashes of Syd Barrett psychedelia and wrap it up in their own bizarre imagination» (PROG Magazine, UK)

“Somehow fallen out of time, but very professionally implemented and utmost catchy.” (Veit Stauffer, RecRec Zürich, Switzerland)

«a true masterpiece of songcraft and arrangement» (Expose, USA)

“As if the Beatles were working with Moody Blues and Genesis in 1970” (Babyblaue Seiten, Ger)

“A little bit of humour should not be missing and the passion for experimentation is never too short at Yonder Pond.” (Proggies.ch, Switzerland)

«It’s definitely a trip, and if you aren’t used to psychedelic concept albums, it may seem a little odd, but I promise it’s a fun listen.» (Divide And Conquer, USA)

“The music of "Pondering Aloud" is an often fun and playful prog that is an amalgam of artifacts and inspiration from Beatles, Genesis, Camel and XTC.” (Permafrost, Norway)

«The mood is certainly quirky and silly in a way that bands like Camel, Caravan and Gong were on their early albums» (ProgGnosis, USA)

about

Yonder Pond Basel, Switzerland

Yonder Pond is the brainchild of Swiss drummer Remy Sträuli. Gaining his chops in numerous bands from Basel, ranging from Avant-Jazz, Glam Punk, Zappa tribute, Psych and Power Pop he considered his 40th birthday to be the right time for his own solo project, which musically takes place in the wondrous world of Progressive Rock, his first love (along with The Beatles of course). ... more
